Wizkid, Sarkodie, Jay Z, Kanye West Win big At the just concluded 2012 BET Awards.
Nigerian pop artist Wizkid and Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie have jointly won a BET Award for Best International Act Africa, beating music Champs Mulla (Kenya), Ice Prince (Nigeria), Lira (South Africa) and Mokobe (Mali). Wizkid stood out.
This is not the first time the Best International African Act Award has been jointly won: in 2011 D’banj and 2Face also received the same award.
The other acts nominated in this category included Ice Prince, Lira, Mokobe and Camp Mulla.
The show was held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, USA. It was hosted by veteran Hollywood actor, Samuel L Jackson.
Other winners of 2012 awards were Jay Z, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Beyonce and others.
The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually, and they are broadcast live on BET. BET commissioned Artist/Sculptor and Hip Hop culture icon Carlos Mare139 Rodriguez to design the Award sculpture. Global promotion is provided by Mac & Diva Entertainment.
