The People democratic party’s 2011 National convention that ended in Abuja yesterday, produced another embarrassing moment of our time.
Malam Umar Garba Chiza was re-elected as the National Youth Leader, at the age of 60. Malam Chiza was sponsored into that position by the governor of Niger State, Dr Babangida Aliyu, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum.
A youth is defined by Dictionary Reference ‘as the period of life from puberty to the attainment of full growth – adolescence’.
None of these words above fits Malam Umar Garba Chiza and it is sad that our youths are NEVER considered or groomed to replace these leaders who has been around even before Nigeria attained Independence.
Getting these young people ready to talk-over leadership positions should be one of the reasons for the creation of the position of a Youth leader.
