Henry Alibah, the 24- year-old student who posted his ex-girlfriend’s nude photographs on social media platform “Facebook,” on Wednesday broke down in tears when he appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra for the second time.
Alibah is said to have perpetrated the act after his ex-girlfriend had informed him that she was quitting their two-year-old relationship.
On January 22 Alibah was charged for causing emotional or psychological abuse and pleaded guilty with explanation.
According to Alibah, his ex-girlfriend had threatened to reveal all secret things he had told her, adding that his ex-girlfriend had accused him of going out with a prostitute.
The court presided over Ms Ellen Amoah said his plea did not amount to guilty hence, entered a plea of not guilty for him.
However at today’s sitting Alibah wept uncontrollably, pleaded guilty and asked for forgiveness.
Mr Gad Cobinna, counsel for Alibah told the court that his client had apologized to the complainant’s family and her school. He said the accused person had shown remorse and that his client was a first time offender and had learnt his lessons after spending some time in prison over the past weeks.
Mr Cobbina in his plea for mitigation said that the law enjoined the court to allude to a punishment of a fine or conviction of signing a bond to be of good behaviour.
The court adjourned the matter to February 18 for sentencing.
Prosecuting Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant, who is the victim is a student who was in a relationship with Alibah.
However, about three months ago, the complainant called Alibah on phone and informed him that she wanted to quit the relationship. Alibah disagreed and pleaded with the complainant not to break the relationship.
A few weeks later Alibah called the complainant and asked her to rescind her decision else he was going to post her nude pictures on facebook.
Inspector Atimbire said as the complainant did not heed to accused person’s demands and Alibah uploaded her nude photographs onto the complainant’s accounts on facebook with the inscription: “Porn Star, pay and fuck. Call me on phone number…..”
Prosecution said a few minutes later, the complainant’s friends went on facebook and started calling her concerning the pictures.
To ascertain the truth, prosecution said the complainant herself went on facebook and saw her naked pictures. She became offended and reported the matter to the Police and Alibah was arrested.
In Alibah’s cautioned statement, he admitted the offence.
