As part of efforts to beef up security in the state secretariat, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has placed a total ban on all religious activities within the premises of the state secretariat, Alausa, just as Muslim workers yesterday rose against the decision, describing it as ungodly and insensitive.
This came in the wake of an executive order No. EO/BRF003 of 2012 dated Wednesday, February 15, 2012, issued by the governor to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies prohibiting religious activities in the secretariat including mosques located around the secretariat as part of efforts to beef up security in the area. The order stated: All religious activities within the secretariat are hereby prohibited, including the conduct of Muslim prayers behind the Ministry of Justice and behind the Ministry of Tourism and Inter-Governmental Relations. All devotees are now to use the Central Mosque and Chapel of Christ the Light respectively, which have been provided for these purposes. This development, however, will bring an abrupt end to the daily conduct of prayers by Muslim faithful some located within the premises of the secretariat…~national mirror.
